And the ice off jig fly is a deadly option to add to your arsenal when you return to the open waters.
Although the fish may be hungry, the insects are still not in full hatch. Chironomids are sparse, and the cold waters make what is available rather lethargic.
The ice-off jig is an excellent option stripped slowly or under an indicator. The orange or chartreuse bead head with sparse flash provides just enough eye candy and alurement.
